Harry Kane is reportedly unlikely to call it quits at Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.
Hopes of a dramatic Premier League return for Harry Kane appear to be fading, with the England captain expected to remain at Bayern Munich for at least another season. Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have both been linked with moves for the prolific striker, but neither club is on track to lure him away from Germany this summer.
Kane, who left Spurs for Bayern in a £100 million transfer in August 2023, had a £67 million release clause active in the winter transfer window, but neither club made a move. That clause will reportedly drop to around £55 million in 2026, but for now, the 31-year-old is settled in Bavaria and not actively seeking a return to England.
Bayern Munich not ready to part ways with Kane
According to GiveMeSport, Bayern Munich are not looking to offload Kane, but rather to provide him with more competition. New Bayern boss Vincent Kompany is keen to add another center-forward to the squad, though not as an immediate replacement for Kane.
Kane has seamlessly adapted to life in Germany, delivering yet another outstanding goal-scoring season. His contributions have kept Bayern in contention for silverware, making it even less likely that the club would sanction a sale. Additionally, his £400,000-per-week wages make him an expensive target for Spurs and United, further complicating any potential transfer.
With Manchester United also prioritising younger attacking options and Tottenham focusing on developing academy talent like Dane Scarlett, both clubs may be forced to look elsewhere for their next marquee striker.
Kane open to returning to England — But not yet
Although Kane has not ruled out a future return to the Premier League, he is in no rush to leave Bayern at this stage of his career. The England international remains fully committed to winning trophies in Germany, an achievement that eluded him during his long spell at Tottenham. So, even though a £67 million release clause exists in Kane’s deal, a move will not materialise.
While both Tottenham and Manchester United would undoubtedly welcome Kane back with open arms, it appears that any return will have to wait. With his contract including a decreasing release clause in the coming years, an eventual move back to England remains a possibility — but for now, Kane’s focus remains firmly on Bayern Munich’s ambitions.
Both Tottenham and Manchester United could benefit immensely from a striker of Kane’s caliber, but the reality is that neither club seems in a position to secure his return this summer. Spurs are undergoing a long-term rebuild under Ange Postecoglou, and while a Kane return would be a dream scenario, it would likely disrupt their long-term strategy.
For Manchester United, Kane would be a perfect fit in their attack, but his wages and Bayern Munich’s reluctance to sell make it an unlikely move. The Red Devils may be better off focusing on a younger, long-term solution rather than investing heavily in a player who might only be available for a few more prime seasons.
Ultimately, Kane will return to England at some stage — but not this summer. Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United United must now shift their focus to alternative options as they prepare for next season.
