Rams’ Puka Nacua Switches Jersey Number for Davante Adams

Los Angeles Rams star wide receiver Puka Nacua officially has a new jersey number.

After sporting the No. 17 for the first two years of his career, he will now rock the No. 12.

The Rams and Nacua made the announcement on Tuesday.

This comes after the Rams acquired star wide receiver Davante Adams via free agency. Adams, who has worn the No. 17 his entire career, will continue to do so in Southern California.

Nacua will now wear the No. 12 jersey, which was his jersey number at BYU. The 23-year-old mentioned in the video above what the No. 12 means to him.

"It's been a family number," Nacua says in the video. "I wore it in my Little League football years all the way through high school and into college."

The fact that Nacua gave up the No. 17 at all is a shock. He appeared on an episode of the St. Brown Podcast and said, "I don't think I'd do it for $2 mill" when Amon-Ra St. Brown asked him if he would give up No. 17 to his new teammate in Adams for $2 million (55-second mark).

As things stand, Adams is the more proven player throughout his entire career. The 32-year-old is a six-time Pro Bowler, three-time first-team All-Pro (last making it in 2022), and two-time NFL receiving touchdown leader.

The California native will play in his 12th season in the NFL and with his fourth team in his career. Adams signed with the Rams on Sunday after he was released by the New York Jets on March 4. He signed a two-year deal with the Rams, has an $8 million base salary in 2025 and $16 million in 2026.

His 2025 base salary is guaranteed and he has a $6 million roster bonus guaranteed on the third day of the 2026 league year. He also has a $12 million signing bonus and $1 million available in incentives each year.

After a slow start in 2024, Adams came out strong in the end and finished his season with 67 receptions for 854 yards and seven touchdowns in 11 games for the Jets.

As for Nacua, he had a stellar second season. Although he only played in 11 games, he finished the season with 79 receptions for 990 yards and four total touchdowns after playing in all 17 games in 2023.

The former BYU Cougar will return to his old roots and seek more of the same results on the football field in 2025.
