Man United frontrunners to land Argentinian defender

Manchester United host Spanish side Real Sociedad in the second leg of their Europa League last 16 tie on Thursday night.

The Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw in San Sebastien last week and Ruben Amorim’s side therefore have work to do if they are to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition.

United are already out of both domestic cup competitions and currently sit 14th in the Premier League table.

Amorim’s side are therefore at serious risk of failing to qualify for any form of European competition next term, and winning the Europa League may be their only chance of securing European football next season.

In the meantime, it has emerged that United are in pole position to land a talented young Argentine defender.

Football Insider claims that United are currently frontrunners to sign Rosario Central defender Juan Gimenez.

The 18-year-old is an Argentina youth international and has established himself within the senior squad at Rosario Central in recent months.

He has now played 21 times for the club and has been impressive, but his bright displays have attracted interest from several clubs.

United’s transfer policy of late has been to focus on signing talented youngsters, and Gimenez therefore fits that criteria.

The report claims that the teenager has impressed United scouts, and the Manchester club are now considering a move to sign the player.

Gimenez signed a new deal with Rosario in 2023, but that contract is set to expire in December this year and United could look to take advantage of the situation.

Those in charge of United’s recruitment could once again be in the market for talented young players during this summer’s window, and the report suggests that Gimenez is a player that is firmly on their radar.
