Italian premier meets Danish counterpart to discuss security, cooperation

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Danish Prime Premier Mette Frederiksen met Tuesday in Rome to discuss pressing security issues, including the situation in Ukraine and broader European and Euro-Atlantic security concerns.

The two leaders met at the Chigi Palace, where Meloni welcomed Frederiksen with an official ceremony in the courtyard.

Discussions focused on key topics ahead of the upcoming EU Leaders’ Summit on March 20 - 21, with attention given to cooperation in defense, competitiveness and the fight against irregular migration.

A statement from the palace highlighted the positive collaboration between Italy and Denmark, noting that both leaders exchanged views on how to address the crisis in Ukraine.

It emphasized the countries' joint efforts to find innovative solutions to the challenges they face.

Meloni and Frederiksen also explored opportunities to further strengthen relations, which have been described as "excellent" in defense, energy, and research.
