Lamine Yamal put on a stellar showing on Tuesday as [Barcelona beat Benfica](https://www.barcablaugranes.com/2025/3/11/24382028/barcelona-benfica-champions-league-round-16-2nd-leg-final-score-match-report-recap-reactions) to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
The teenager teed up Raphinha for a brilliant opener and then added a wonderful second with a sublime piece of skill and a lovely finish.
However, Yamal did have something of a confession to make after the game as he admitted his ‘assist’ was actually a miscued shot rather than a brilliant pass.
> “I tried to shoot. I have to thank Raphinha who was attentive and was able to catch my shot and score. He is having a very good season and I am happy for him,” he told reporters.
>
> “I just want to enjoy this moment. I try not to think too much about my limits, just have fun and spend quality time with my teammates.”
Yamal then did speak about his goal and believes it’s the best of his career so far.
> ”Yes, I think it’s my best goal,” he added. “I would put it on a par with the one I scored at the European Championship against France.
>
> “So far, everything is going well and I am having a lot of fun this season. I thank my teammates because they make everything easy for me and I am very happy about that.”
It’s pretty honest stuff from Yamal and takes nothing away from his performance.
He was simply unplayable at times and made Champions League history by becoming the youngest player to both score and assist in the same Champions League game.
