Dub Hub: Jimmy Butler credits teammates for his first Warriors’ triple-double

In today’s Dub Hub:

The Golden State Warriors continue to roll with Jimmy Butler in the mix. Following Monday night’s 130-120 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers, the Warriors improved to 12-1 when the six-time All-Star forward is in the lineup. Butler played an all-around game, delivering his first triple-double in a Warriors uniform with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.

Butler and the Warriors definitely benefitted from a balanced team approach. Six Golden State players scored in double figures, with four of them reaching 20 points or more. After the game, Butler downplayed his individual performance, crediting his teammates for making it all possible.

After recording Golden State’s first triple-double this season, Jimmy Butler says “you can’t get a triple-double without your teammates. That’s for damn sure. … I’m just happy that we won — triple-double or not.”

Butler faced criticism for being a bad teammate following his controversial exit from the Miami Heat. But with the Warriors, he has quickly silenced doubters, revitalizing a team that had been struggling to find its rhythm. His impact has been undeniable, and his new teammates have embraced him wholeheartedly.

It’s safe to say Butler has embraced the team both on and off the court too as their growing chemistry continues to surge Golden State in a positive direction.

Warriors News:

Warriors continue their ‘sprint to the finish’ by tying season high-water mark | The Athletic

Butler, at 6 foot 7, is the tallest player in many of the lineup combinations that include Draymond Green at center. But the Warriors are rebounding well enough, turning teams over and locking down opponents for prolonged stretches.

“I think that is our advantage,” Butler said. “That we are faster than a lot of teams. We have a lot of high-level IQ guys, but we do not use (the lack of size) as an excuse. We are expected to win. No matter who is in the lineup, no matter how tall anyone is, we are expected to win. We have been doing that lately, and I have a feeling that we will continue to do it.”

Their styles are complete opposites. Yet, both refuse to be punked. The two even got tangled up within the first two minutes of the second quarter, and Post showed he can do what Clingan does best, too. In his first 10 minutes of play, Post already was up to a career-high three blocked shots.

Post showed some frustrations with his faults and was a minus-2 in 25 minutes, scoring 11 points, as well as seven rebounds and four blocked shots. Clingan also blocked four shots but was a plus-4 in 32 minutes with 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

Stephen Curry set to become first player to reach 4,000 career 3-pointers made | NBA

Consistency is a key factor in Curry’s road to 4,000 career made 3-pointers. While all shooters go through slumps, Curry has never played three consecutive games without making at least one 3-pointer.

Curry has made at least one 3-pointer in 967 of his 1,010 career games. That 95.7% rate ranks first all-time among players that have played at least 50 games. Only 186 players in NBA history have ever played in 967 games, let alone have that many games with a 3-pointer.

Curry not only holds the record for most consecutive games with at least one 3-pointer made (268 games over five seasons from 2018-2023), he also owns the second-longest streak (157 games, 2014-2016).

For Klay Thompson, Kyrie Irving’s injury, and expected recovery, looks familiar | The Athletic

The Mavericks only had eight players available because of injuries against the Spurs, but they still managed to pull out a road win. Thompson was one of four Dallas players to contribute at least 20 points. The Mavericks (33-33) halted a five-game losing streak and increased their lead for 10th place in the West over the Phoenix Suns to 2 1/2 games.

“You still get to do what you love,” Thompson said. “It’s just another opportunity to show what you can do. That’s probably the toughest part: not feeling sorry for yourself and realizing we have a job to do. This is the best job. It’s great, honestly.”

In case you missed it at Golden State of Mind:

Player grades: Warriors vs. Blazers

Moses Moody

30 minutes, 20 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, 7-for-10 shooting, 2-for-5 threes, 4-for-4 free throws, 85.0% TS, -2

My goodness what a performance from Moody. Sure, some more rebounds or some assists would be nice. But 30 minutes in a fast-paced game without a turnover or a foul, while pouring in 20 points on extreme efficiency? I think it’s safe to say that Moody has fully arrived.

Grade: A

***Post-game bonus:***Tied for the worst plus/minus on the team.
