Reid now joins Tyrann Matthieu as the team's lead safeties. This is going to be huge for the Saints' secondary.
Reid ended the 2024 season with 87 total tackles, two interceptions, and nine passes defended.
Reid began his career with the Houston Texans after he was drafted in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Stanford. While with the Texans, he secured 315 total tackles, two sacks, seven interceptions, and 23 passes defended.
Following a four-year stint with the Texans, Reid was signed to the Chiefs at the start of the 2022 season for a three–year, $31.50 million deal. He would continue his dominance with Kansas City, securing 265 tackles, four sacks, three interceptions, and 23 passes defended.
As part of the Chiefs, Reid secured a Super Bowl championship in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Though an integral part of Kansas City's defense, the team is choosing instead to go the younger route.
Second-year safety Jaden Hicks is likely due up to replace Reid, and he was already beginning to get reps in the 2024 season. With Reid needing a bigger contract, the Chiefs chose instead to allow their second-year safety out of Washington State to show what he can do.
For Reid, he now joins the Saints in hopes that he can aid the team in rebounding from their disappointing 2024 campaign.
With injuries to Rashid Shaheed, Chris Olave, and Derek Carr, the offense lost a big step. Overall, the Saints couldn't find their footing under interim head coach Darren Rizzi.
Now, the Saints have new head coach Kellen Moore and defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus to help guide the team to new heights. Eberflus most recently was the head coach for the Chicago Bears, before he became the first coach in franchise history to be fired in-season.
Still, Eberflus will be instrumental in guiding Reid in his new role, while also helping the entire defense make a splash in 2025. The good news is Reid is going to be lined up next to Matthieu, who is one of the best safeties in the league.
