Long Island Nets fall to Westchester Knicks, 110-93, as Drew Timme goes for 40 points

When NetsDaily asked Drew Timme last week about his goals for the rest of the season, he candidly replied that he wanted to get called up to the NBA. But the three-time Division 1 All-American out of Gonzaga hasn’t just talked the talk. He is walking the walk.

Timme, a 6’10” 24-year-old, has been tearing up the G League of late and even though Long Island lost again Tuesday to the Westchester Knicks, 110-93. Averaging 22.8 points and 10.4 boards in his games with Long Island, he’s taken off the four, averaging 30.0 points, 11.8 boards and is shooting 43.5% from deep. That’s a big deal for him.

While there weren’t many bright spots for Long Island in Tuesday’s game, one of the biggest came in the play of Timme. His 40 piece topped a 31-point career high earlier in the week.

Timme connected on 15 of his 24 shot attempts, including going four for eight from deep, and making all three shots from the foul line. Once again, Timme finished with a double-double, picking up 12 rebounds in the process, leading the team in both categories.

Timme also picked up four assists, two steals and a block. Here’s the highlights:

Terry Roberts, the new starting point guard for Long Island, found himself another double-double and close to a third. Roberts picked up 10 points and 10 assists. Roberts as well as seven rebounds and two steals..

Brooklyn Nets two-way players Tosan Evbuomwan and Tyson Etienne both played well. Evbuomwan finished with 13 points, five rebounds, one assist, and one block, while Etienne picked up 12 points, one rebound, three assists, and two steals.

The biggest problem for Long Island came off their bench, who was held scoreless the entire first half and most of the third quarter. They finished with eight points off Mark Armstrong, who had five, and Oshae Brissett, who had three.

Dariq Whitehead, who made his return for Long Island, had a game he’d like to forget. Whitehead finished with nine points, five rebounds, one assist, and two steals but he wasn’t hitting his shots, beinable to connect on three of his 10 shots, including going one for six from deep.

Shooting was a big issue for Long Island in Thursday’s game. Long Island connected on 36 of their 94 shots, including making 10 of their 38 from deep. Simply put, these shooting numbers are far from good enough to win a game. As a whole, their bench connected on three of their 24 shots.

The first quarter was a very close one, with neither team able to pull away. Long Island was able to take a one-point lead into the second quarter off Timme’s nine points and Etienne’s six. Long Island got outscored in the second quarter, 25-22, which allowed Westchester to take a two-point lead into the half.

The third quarter was when things began to fall apart for Long Island. Westchester outscored Long Island, 38-16, allowing them to take a 24-point lead into the final quarter of play. Despite outscoring Westchester, 32-25, the deficit was insurmountable for Long Island, as they would fall to Westchester by 17.

Moses Brown, the 7-footer from the Bronx and a former Brooklyn Net for a minute or two, led Westchester with 28 points and 15 boards.
