The Pittsburgh Steelers could go back to where everything started. Since talks with Aaron Rodgers are at an impasse, it seems the team is starting to shift back to Russell Wilson, who could return for a second year with the Steelers.
Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Rodgers could still come to the Steelers, but since talks have yet to progress, it sure sounds like Wilson’s return is becoming a possibility.
"Russell Wilson wasn’t at the top of their list when they entered discussions with Rodgers and free agent Sam Darnold. However, with negotiations with Rodgers seemingly at an impasse and Darnold and Justin Fields having already agreed to deals with other teams Wilson could become more of a possibility to be re-signed," Dulac said.
Wilson struggled over the last five games of the season but still put up 15 touchdowns with just five interceptions, bringing the offense to its highest peak.
In addition to Rodgers, the New York Giants are after Wilson, but only as a backup move. The Giants released Daniel Jones during the season and have no answer on the roster. Signing Wilson feels more like a win-now move than where they stand, but head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen are in a tough spot and must make something happen to keep their jobs.
