Incoming Arsenal Sporting Director Andrea Berta is keen to bring Matheus Cunha to the club in the summer by using his good relations with the striker’s camp.
According to TBR, incoming Sporting Director Andrea Berta wants Matheus Cunha at Arsenal in the summer. The Italian executive holds good relations with the Brazilian’s camp following their connection at Atletico Madrid, as this aspect could be key to determining where the Wolves star moves in the summer.
Matheus Cunha was the subject of transfer speculation during the January window when he temporarily stalled on signing a new deal at Wolves. Many clubs within the Premier League were instantly alerted to the possibility of signing the Brazilian, who eventually penned the new agreement, which has a release clause attached.
The clause is thought to be within range for some of the top teams to consider ahead of the summer, with Arsenal one of those keen during the winter market. Cunha was reportedly open to joining the Gunners, and as things stand he remains an option for Mikel Arteta to consider ahead of the summer.
Arsenal are in the market for attacking signings, with the priority being a centre-forward. While Cunha might not be an out-and-out striker, he can certainly play there as a false-nine and has done so with lethal effect for Wolves this season. Now, in what may come as a boost for Arsenal, they are close to appointing Andrea Berta as their new Sporting Director and the Italian wants to sign the Brazilian.
Berta has good relations with the 25-year-old Premier League star, as he was the one responsible for bringing him to Atletico Madrid. Berta was also on the case when selling the Brazilian to Wolves, as he could prove pivotal in bringing him to Arsenal ahead of the summer.
Andrea Berta key to signing Matheus Cunha?
Relations in football work differently, although in Berta’s case, he could potentially swing the Cunha saga towards Arsenal. There are other teams open to triggering Cunha’s release clause, given how crucial he could potentially become for Arsenal’s attack next season.
Cunha’s versatility is a key aspect for Arteta to consider him a good enough target despite some outlets suggesting the Spaniard is not overly impressed by his disciplinary record behind the scenes. However, with Berta set to take control of the situation, there could be a way to mend those issues and bring the Brazilian to Arsenal to improve their forward line.
