Liverpool will be without one of their star players in the first leg of the quarter-final round of the UEFA Champions League if they qualify.

The Reds could still play in the next round of the competition if they defeat Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield on Tuesday night.

After a 1-0 win in the first leg in Paris, Arne Slot’s men were unable to break down a stubborn PSG defence at Anfield in normal time despite holding the lion’s share of the ball possession. As a result, the tie will be decided in extra time.

However, before the tie is decided, it has been confirmed that Liverpool will be without midfielder Alexis Mac Allister should they progress to the next round.

The Argentina international received his fifth Champions League booking for the season in the second leg against PSG, meaning that if the Reds qualify, he will miss the first leg of the quarter-finals.

Mac Allister was among five Liverpool players, alongside Virgil van Dijk, Harvey Elliott, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate, who were in danger of potentially missing the quarter-finals first leg due to accumulated bookings.

Unlike the others, the Argentine midfielder has already served a suspension earlier in the competition after receiving three yellow cards during the league phase. Now sitting on five cautions, Mac Allister will miss the first leg of the next round should Liverpool go through.

Alexis Mac Allister will be suspended for the first leg of the quarter final should the Reds advance.
