Bills re-sign RB Ty Johnson

The Buffalo Bills have re-signed unrestricted free agent running back Ty Johnson to a two-year deal. Johnson, 27, was originally drafted by the Detroit Lions in the sixth round (186th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. After stints with the Lions and New York Jets, he has spent the past two seasons in Buffalo, emerging as a key contributor in the backfield.

Johnson has quickly become a fan favorite, averaging an impressive 4.4 yards per carry in 2023 and 5.2 yards per carry in 2024. Serving as the Bills’ primary third-down back, he rushed 41 times for 213 yards and a touchdown last season. His reliability as a pass-catcher out of the backfield has also been a valuable asset, as he hauled in 18 receptions for 284 yards and three touchdowns in 2024.

While contract details have yet to be released, the Bills retain a versatile playmaker who adds depth and explosiveness to their offense. Earlier today the Bills signed running back Darrynton Evans. Currently, they have James Cook, Ray Davis, Johnson, Evans, and RB Frank Gore, Jr. (who signed a reserve/futures contract in January) under contract at the position.
