Manchester United are looking to the summer as an opportunity to strengthen and remodel their squad after a poor campaign seeing them currently sit in 14th place in the Premier League.

However, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s recent admission that without his cost-cutting measures, the club would be bust by the end of the year, prospects of a significant transfer budget are slim.

Similarly to the winter window, United will be reliant on sales this summer to generate funds for any new signings.

As such, The Daily Mail has reported that the club are looking likely to accept cut-price deals on some of their big names, accepting financial hits on their transfer sums.

Four stars Manchester United will financially lose on to offload

First is Antony. The Brazilian has been loving life since going on loan with Real Betis, with three goals and three assists in nine games.

It’s understood that thanks to his newfound form, Betis are considering making the move permanent. However, it’s expected that an offer could be tabled from the LaLiga side for around £25 million, significantly less than the £86 million United paid to sign him from Ajax.

Next is Casemiro, with the veteran midfielder as the club’s highest earner on £375,000 per week, with United keen to rid themselves of such a significant wage.

The Brazilian arrived from Real Madrid back in 2022 for £70 million and it’s understood that United would accept taking a hit on the transfer fee just to clear the wage obligations.

Thirdly we have injury-prone Mason Mount who has a routine spot reserved in the Carrington treatment room due to his consistent injuries. Whilst there are no immediate plans to sell him, the club are open to listen to offers for nearly all their stars.

Mount arrived from Chelsea for £60 million and due to his lack of game time, it’s unlikely that United would be offered anything close to this for the midfielder, if they did wish to part ways.

Finally is Marcus Rashford. The United academy graduate is currently on loan with Aston Villa with the attacker registering three assists in eight games since moving in January.

The loan deal was agreed with an option to buy for £40 million, however this might not go quite to plan. Rashford’s extortionate wages of £315,000 per week proved too much to get a permanent move across the line in the winter despite interest from Europe’s elite.

Teams like Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona all considered a move for the attacker, pulling out due to his demanding salary.

As such United could have to give Rashford a pay-off to see him agree a drop in wages, which insiders have estimated to be around £20 million, cutting the agreed transfer fee with Villa in half.

Whilst the transfer market is still a few months away, United will need to be lining up potential sales to generate funds early so as to not miss out on any potential opportunities.
