On Deadline Day last summer, Manchester United seemingly managed to offload wantaway winger Jadon Sancho as a deal was agreed to see the star move to Chelsea on a loan with obligation to buy.
Erik ten Hag was keen to see the back of him as he’d spent the second half of last season on loan after a very public bust-up seeing him return to former club Borussia Dortmund.
Whilst United were hoping to permanently offload Sancho in the summer, it wasn’t to be, having to accept a temporary deal with The Blues.
However, the obligation to buy was agreed, so long as Chelsea finished above 14th in the Premier League, which ironically right now, is United.
The deal was agreed to see United earn £20 million in the deal, covering the £17 million which is still yet to be paid on his £73 million move to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund back in 2021.
With the London-based club currently in fourth place, it looks set for Sancho to complete his move on a permanent basis at the end of the season, however, this may not be the case.
The Daily Mail has now reported that the permanent signing might not be so cut and dry.

Chelsea could still pull out of Jadon Sancho deal
The report explains that Chelsea still has the option to pull out of the deal, however, sources close to the situation have reported a “significant penalty” would be triggered against Chelsea if this did happen.
One sign however that this could be a potential outcome is the lack of contract talks between Sancho and his new club.
Loanees often agree terms prior to moving to their new clubs so the long-term understanding is in place when the temporary move becomes permanent, however this is yet to happen.
It’s also understood that Chelsea are looking at other potential wingers such as Jesus Rodriguez of Real Betis, with Sancho only contributing two goals and six assists in 26 games.
If contract terms aren’t agreed for the winger to remain at Stamford Bridge, then Chelsea will either have to accept the penalty, sending him back to Old Trafford, presumably to be sold, or look to selling the star themselves to claw back the £20 million they’ll be parting with.
