San Antonio Spurs Urged to Make ‘Good Enough’ Trade This Offseason

Amid basically a lost season full of internal turmoil, the San Antonio Spurs should, and have, set their sights on the offseason and work on bouncing back with a fully healthy roster next year.

With Victor Wembanyana, De'Aaron Fox, and a lottery pick all enjoying a full offseason together, it stands to reason that the Spurs will be back and better next year, although they have been urged to make a trade to bolster their depth.

The Spurs have been unable to find a center or true power forward who can play alongside Wembanyama and back him up when he isn't playing. Jeremy Sochan can co-exist with Wemby, but he is not a full-time center in the event that Wembanyama has to sit.

If the Spurs can get Naz Reid to opt out and sign in San Antonio, that seems like the best option, although a trade for a different star might be easier to pull off. In a mock trade proposed by *Bleacher Report's*Greg Swartz, the Spurs would send Keldon Johnson to the Detroit Pistons for center Isaiah Stewart.

"Stewart, 23, is another elite rim protector who's a good enough three-point shooter (34.3 percent for his career) to mix and match alongside Wembanyama," wrote Swartz. "He's holding opponents to a stingy 46.2 percent shooting at the rim, a mark even lower than Wemby himself."

This season, "Beef Stew" is averaging 5.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks, although he is playing a career-low in minutes and seems to be the odd man out in Detroit. A change of scenery could do him well, and the Spurs have struggled to find a backup center behind Wembanyama since drafting him.
