Cairo: Kuwait has arrested a woman whose citizenship was revoked after she criticized the state and questioned the rule of law on social media.
The Interior Ministry said she was detained for making offensive remarks and challenging sovereign decisions. She has been referred to the Deportation and Temporary Detention Affairs Department for deportation to her country of origin.

Her Kuwaiti citizenship was withdrawn under Article 8 of the Nationality Law, which applies to expatriate wives of Kuwaitis. She had claimed online that she obtained citizenship in 2006 and vowed to regain it.
Kuwait has recently intensified efforts to combat citizenship fraud and dual nationality to protect its national identity. Since early March, thousands have been stripped of their citizenship for forgery or holding another nationality, which is prohibited under Kuwaiti law.
