Josh Allen is now one of the richest quarterbacks in NFL history. The reigning MVP of the Buffalo Bills agreed to a record six-year, $330 million contract extension with an NFL record $250 million guaranteed.
But why exactly did the Bills get a deal done with Allen despite having four years on his original deal?
Speaking on the Pat McAfee show Tuesday afternoon, Bills general manager Brandon Beane gave the basic reason first and foremost. And it centers around who Allen is as a person, not just as a player.
"He is Buffalo through and through. He's a lunch-pail guy, grew up on a farm, he's just your kinda guy. Just all the people he comes across, for a guy of an MVP caliber to give praise not just to teammates or coaches, but to some of our staff," Beane said. "That's who Josh is, through and through, he truly knows the lunch staff, again 'Slick Rick,' all the people in the building, he's not too big for anyone, and that's what Buffalo is. It's the city of good neighbors, so Josh is that through and through."
Buffalo didn't just give Allen a new contract, but the team also added some weapons to help their quarterback try to get over the hump in a competitive AFC. Joshua Palmer and edge rusher Michael Hoecht each were brought in to solve key needs.
Allen was a big part in getting Palmer - a player who spent his first four years in Los Angeles over to Buffalo according to Beane.
And that is by design.

"Josh has earned that. Sometimes he knows a guy. He goes out to California and throws with various players," said Beane."If it's something like that, where he's got a connection or he knows someone there, he's met the player somewhere along the way, [I] definitely ask him what he thinks about him. Has he thrown with him."
Allen has been the perfect franchise quarterback for Buffalo both on and off the field.
And it's a big reason why the Bills remain confident they can figure it out at the end.
