What a day it was for the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday. The NFL negotiating period got off to a slow start on early Monday. But over the past 24 hours, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has kicked the activity into overdrive, agreeing to terms Tuesday morning with three top 15 free agents — Jonathan Allen, Will Fries and Javon Hargrave — all in a matter of hours.
But after Daniel Jones walked in free agency, for an easier starting opportunity with the Indianapolis Colts, questions remain over who the Vikings will bring in as a veteran QB, to pair with medical redshirt rookie QB, JJ McCarthy in training camp.
There are a handful of good backup-type options available, but there has been some chatter about the MN Vikings pivoting their 2025 quarterback plans one more time, given there’s a 1st ballot hall of fame QB still on the market and some insiders have even suggested that Aaron Rodgers is holding off on signing anywhere else, while he waits (and hopes) for the Vikings to call.

Well… Tuesday afternoon, a fellow former NFL quarterback offered his advice to Rodgers. And A-Rodg might want to pay attention because nobody knows what Aaron is going through more than Brett Favre, who went from the Packers to the Jets to the Vikings over a decade ago.
Brett’s two cents came via the Will Cain Show (FOX News). When asked what his fellow Packer alum should do, Favre urged Rodgers to take advantage of any opportunity he gets to play with the Minnesota Vikings. He cited the Vikings loaded roster and “tremendous fanbase” in his reasoning.

Cain: “There’s talk that Aaron Rodgers has not ruled out the Vikings, which is the exact same path you walked. What would you say to Aaron if he is thinking about signing with the Vikings?”
Favre: “By all means, sign [with] them. They got a really good football team, they’re loaded at pretty much every position, they made it to the playoffs last year and they have a tremendous fanbase, much like the Packers. You know, if he gets the opportunity, that’s a good place to win. Plus, you get to play the Packers then.”
Cain: “I was gonna say, we do know the relationship between Vikings fans and the Packers.”
Favre: “Yeah, a love/hate relationship, at its best. That’s what makes it such a great rivalry. I got to see it from both sides and it made me appreciate the rivalry even more. If he gets an opportunity, then why not, if they ask him?

Favre asking for Minnesota Vikings deja vu
In his two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, from 2009-2010, Brett Favre threw for 6,711 yards, 44 touchdowns and 26 interceptions, but those stats are misleading. Favre’s first season as a Viking was one of the best QB seasons in team history (4,202 yards, 33 touchdowns, 7 interceptions). The next year… went the other way.

After leaving the Green Bay Packers two offseasons ago, Aaron Rodgers has spent the past two years of his NFL career trying to keep his head above career drowning waters in New York, with the Jets. But now, he is back on the market searching for the final home of his now 20-year NFL career.

If he really is waiting out the Minnesota Vikings, that is a smart decision. From what has been reported, the other two options are the Giants and Steelers, neither of which has a roster that is ready to compete for a Super Bowl in 2025, like the Vikings. Now, is Kevin O’Connell as enamored by Rodgers, as he likely is in the Vikings?
It doesn’t sound like it… but that can always change. Even the most serious reporters around town have been slow to completely rule out a scenario where the 4X NFL MVP lands in purple. I mean, who would say no to this all over again?
