Barcelona midfielder Gavi insisted he has no problem not being in Hansi Flick’s starting XI [after starting on the bench again on Tuesday against Benfica](https://www.barcablaugranes.com/2025/3/11/24382028/barcelona-benfica-champions-league-round-16-2nd-leg-final-score-match-report-recap-reactions).
Flick has a host of midfield options to choose from this season, with Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Marc Casado and Fermin Lopez also battling for a spot.
Gavi was quizzed about his role ahead of the game and issued a pretty strong statement.
> “No, I’ll never be upset about not starting. People say things, they talk about offers from here and there, but lies,” he told the media.
>
> “I signed a 5-year contract here and I will stick to it, because this is the club of my life. Rotations happen, I’m calm and the coach trusts me.”
Barcelona’s No. 6 also paid tribute to Dr Minarro Garcia and dedicated the victory to the late team doctor.
> “We wanted to give him the victory today, it is the least he deserves. Whatever comes from now on is for Dr. Miñarro,” he added.
>
> “He was a great person and we will miss him a lot. We aspire to all the titles. We have already won the Super Cup and everything we do is to make the fans happy.”
Barcelona now have a few days to recover before another huge game. This time it’s in La Liga as Flick’s boys face Atletico on Sunday in Madrid.
