Chelsea have been linked to a Barcelona midfielder and Arsenal to a 20-year-old number nine.
Chelsea will aim to end the season on a high by qualifying for the Champions League in Enzo Maresca’s first season. They are currently fourth in the table after a 1-0 win against Leicester City in their last game.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are currently second in the Premier League but have dropped points in their last three league games leaving them 15 points behind Liverpool. Their hopes for the rest of this season lean on the Champions League.
Both sides will be keen to improve their squads in the summer transfer window as they both aim to get closer to the top of the Premier League table.
Chelsea prepare £50m bid for Barcelona star
Chelsea have been linked to several midfielders ahead of the summer transfer window, including Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. However, they have now been linked to a Barcelona star.
According to Fijaches, Chelsea are lining up a £50 million summer bid for Gavi, who is regarded as one of the best young talents in world football.
The 20-year-old previously won the Golden Boy award in 2022 and has become more of a mainstay in both Barcelona and Spain’s starting XIs. This season, he’s made 24 appearances for Hansi Flick’s side, scoring two goals and providing three assists.
The report says that it is unclear as to whether the La Liga giants would be willing to sell Gavi, who can play both as a central midfielder or more of an attacker.
He would likely fit into Enzo Maresca’s side playing alongside Cole Palmer, and the pair could develop a creative partnership in midfield at Stamford Bridge.
Gavi is under contract at Barcelona until 2030, so they will likely be reluctant to sell him unless Chelsea comes in with a strong offer. £50 million may not be enough to land the 20-year-old.
Arsenal shortlist Porto striker
Chelsea aren’t the only team set to make big money moves in the summer transfer window, as Arsenal are likely to sign a striker after their injury problems under Mikel Arteta this season.
Recent reports from Spanish outlet Fichajes have linked Arsenal to signing Porto striker Samu Aghehowa, who only moved to the Portuguese side in August from Atletico Madrid for a fee of £12.6m.
Aghehowa has made 33 appearances for Porto this season, scoring 20 goals and three assists, impressive figures considering that he’s just 20 years old. He plays as more of a traditional number nine, something that the Gunners are looking to add in the summer.
They will have to battle rivals Manchester United and Tottenham for his signature as they are also reportedly keen to sign the 20-year-old. Aghehowa is estimated to be worth around £42 million according to TransferMarkt, and would be an investment for the future for the Gunners.
