Wolves news round-up: Tommy Doyle update emerges, star praised by Ian Wright and more

A pivotal weekend in Wolves’ season awaits as they aim to pull away from the relegation places in the Premier League.

Wolves head to bottom side Southampton, knowing they could open up a nine-point gap on Ipswich Town and Leicester City with victory.

Vitor Pereira’s men secured a 1-1 draw against Everton last time out to strengthen their grip on 17th position, and nothing less than three points will be accepted at St Mary’s.

So, ahead of their visit to the South Coast on Saturday, here’s the latest news coming out of Molineux.

Ian Wright impressed by Jean-Ricner Bellegarde

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s turnaround in a Wolves shirt has been sensational. The Frenchman has gone from being on the fringes to becoming a key player for Pereira.

On Saturday, the 26-year-old was influential once more as the Old Gold collected an important point without the suspended Matheus Cunha.

Ian Wright has since praised Bellegarde for his performance, pointing out that he was ‘excellent’ and stepped up in the absence of Cunha.

Wolves target Tammy Abraham compared to Jorgen Strand Larsen

The transfer rumours have already started months before the window opens, and Wolves have been linked with Tammy Abraham.

Interest in the Englishman suggests the Old Gold could be looking at a striker to rival Jorgen Strand Larsen at Molineux.

However, as exclusively revealed to Molineux News, transfer expert Graeme Bailey feels Abraham and Strand Larsen are too similar in profile, which suggests he isn’t a priority.

In a match Cunha was absent from, Pereira welcomed centre-back Emmanuel Agbadou into the starting lineup following his injury.

The powerful Ivorian has been a revelation since joining from Stade Reims in January, and keeping him fit will crucial to staying up.

Despite being sidelined for three matches, Dave Edwards felt Agbadou made a ‘huge difference’ against Everton, commanding his defence expertly.

Tommy Doyle could leave Wolves

Finally, Molineux News exclusively revealed this week that midfielder Tommy Doyle could leave Wolves this summer amid lack of playing time.

The Englishman has rarely featured under Pereira, with Joao Gomes, Marshall Munetsi, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Andre and even Boubacar Traore above him in the pecking order.

Sunderland were linked with Doyle in January, and don’t be surprised if the Black Cats come back in for him, especially if they seal promotion to the Premier League.
