Man United have not given up hope of keeping Kobbie Mainoo despite a standoff over a new deal, sources have told Football Insider.

It has been widely reported that the 19-year-old is ready to reject the offer of a new Old Trafford contract and seek a move overseas.

Mainoo’s current deal is set to run until June 2027 – with United holding the option to extend it a further 12 months.

It is believed United will continue talks with the midfielder until the end of the 2024-25 campaign as they push to persuade the academy product to stay put for the long term.

‘Man United have not given up hope’ of keeping Mainoo

The Red Devils have not given up hope of keeping Mainoo around but sources say a failure to break through in talks before the summer transfer window could spell a parting of the ways.

He has made 25 appearances across all competitions this term but is currently sidelined with a muscle injury.

Mainoo only made his breakthrough under Erik ten Hag last season but scored the eventual winner in the famous FA Cup final victory over Man City at Wembley last year (2024).

He has made 60 senior appearances since graduating from the club’s academy.

Amorim ‘regrets taking Man United job’

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 5 March that Ruben Amorim has told friends he thinks he made a mistake taking the job at Old Trafford.

Sources say the ex-Sporting CP boss has been “personally shocked by how bad the players are”.

United sit 14th in the Premier League table under the Portuguese boss, who succeeded Ten Hag in late November.
