Michelsen has worked across Scandinavia throughout his career, having began his coaching journey in native Denmark – his first major role head coach of IK Skovbakken women's team.
Eventually moving across to the men’s senior team, Michelsen led the club to promotion, before switching to Hobro IK.
His big breakthrough came in 2015, as manager of Danish side SønderjyskE. Despite the club having never previously finished in the top five, Michelsen led the team to a second-place finish, only behind FC Copenhagen.
This meant European qualification for the first time in SønderjyskE history, with the club competing in Europa League the following year. This saw Michelsen win the Danish Coach of the Year.
A move to Hammarby followed, but Michelsen’s reign was ended after just one season, following a ninth-place finish.
### **Did you know?**
Hamar, where HamKam are based, is one of the few Norwegian cities or towns that isn’t on the coastline.
Its defining feature is its situation next to Lake Mjøsa, Norway’s biggest lake. The lake played an important role in Hamar’s success as a trading post during the early Middle Ages.
Although it is a small city, home to a population of 28,535, Hamar is also home to a second top tier sports club – the Storhamar Hockey team. The reigning Norwegian champions play at the Northern Light Hall, a 7,000 capacity venue that was originally built for the 1994 Winter Olympics.
