Newcastle United have had to deal with multiple setbacks ahead of the Carabao Cup final.
That is why it was essential that Newcastle beat West Ham on Monday night.
Eddie Howe’s side won 1-0 at the London Stadium, with Newcastle gaining momentum ahead of the game against Liverpool at Wembley.
It was vital that the Magpies were victorious against West Ham, as the mood had really dipped as the Carabao Cup final loomed.
Newcastle United had suffered multiple blows, with Anthony Gordon’s suspension and Lewis Hall and Sven Botman’s injuries.
All three will miss the final, while it is even worse for Hall. His foot injury is season-ending, as an incredible campaign for the 20-year-old is cut short.

Lewis Hall inundated with messages as Newcastle United defender confirms surgery
It is a cruel end to Hall’s season, who has now undergone surgery.
The left-back has delivered a message via his official Instagram account, confirming that the operation was successful as he moves on to the next stage of his recovery.

Hall wrote: “Still absolutely devastated to not be out there with the lads at such a crucial part of the season. Surgery was a success and now time to rest, recover and support the boys. Thank you for all the messages over the past week, can’t wait to be back out there ready for next season.”
Since posting the message, alongside a picture of him in his hospital bed, Hall has been inundated with messages from past and present Newcastle United players.
The likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Martin Dubravka, Jacob Murphy and Fabian Schar have sent messages of support to Hall.
Bruno wrote posted ‘good recovery my g’, while Murphy told Hall he will be ‘back better than ever’.
That sentiment was shared by Dubravka, who commented: “You will come back even stronger buddy.”
Toon legend Alan Shearer added: “Get well soon.”
Elsewhere, former Newcastle teammate and current Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson wrote: “Speedy recovery bro.”
There was even a message from Newcastle transfer target James Trafford, who posted three heart emojis.
Who will replace Lewis Hall at Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final
With Hall out of the Carabao Cup final and the rest of the season, Eddie Howe needs to decide on a new left-back.
That decision already appears to have been made, with Tino Livramento moving from right to left during the Magpies’ previous two games.
In terms of defending, he played well against West Ham on Monday night. When Jarrod Bowen moved over to the right wing, Livramento did well to keep the Hammers captain quiet.
However, Livramento did leave a lot to be desired offensively. There were multiple moments when he could have put a dangerous ball into the box, but opted to turn back inside onto his stronger right foot.
Regardless, Eddie Howe was happy with Livramento, and he will be tasked with filling Hall’s shoes at Wembley on Sunday.
