Newcastle Identify Callum Wilson's Potential Replacement But They Face Battle With 4 Other PL Clubs To Sign Him

Newcastle are keeping close tabs on Norwich City forward Josh Sargent, according to reports.

EFLAnalysis claim that the Magpies have sent scouts to watch the American international since the beginning of the New Year.

Sargent has caught the eye playing for the Canaries this season, having found the back of the net 12 times in 23 appearances.

His performances have not only attracted the interest of Eddie Howe’s side but several other Premier League clubs too.

Newcastle may have to see off competition from 4 other teams

EFLAnalysis report that the likes of Brentford, Everton, Fulham and Nottingham Forest have also been monitoring the striker‘s progress in recent months.

Sargent’s form has been particularly strong since his return from a groin injury in January. He has scored 8 goals in his last 8 league appearances for Norwich.

Wilson is set to leave St. James’ Park this summer

The Magpies are likely to be in the market for a new No.9, with Callum Wilson not expected to be handed a new contract. The 33-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of June.

He has had problems staying fit, particularly over the last two years, and it does look like the club have made the decision to part ways.

Sargent is relatively untested at the highest level so it is difficult to tell how he would fare in the Premier League. He did have one season with Norwich in the top flight, but he was part of a team who finished bottom of the table.

Considering it was the American’s first season in English football as well, it would be harsh to judge him on his performances, but he only scored twice in 26 league games during that ill-fated campaign. If he does make the switch to Newcastle, he will be hoping to make a better impression.
