Gavi to Chelsea: Can the Blues Pull Off a Stunning Midfield Coup?

Chelsea are apparently looking to bring more creativity and technical brilliance to their midfield and are now targeting none other than Gavi. Chelsea are reportedly gearing up to blow Spanish international money and offer Barcelona €60m (£50m) to lure him to Stamford Bridge, with the 20 year old to be a key figure for both Spain and Barcelona.

Gavi fits the bill for Chelsea fans dreaming of a midfield maestro to unlock defenses, control the game and provide what has been sorely missing from their attack – vision. Is this move realistic or an another transfer fantasy?

Why Chelsea Want Gavi in Their Midfield

The Chelsea midfield this season has been as go together as a cat’s skateboard: smooth one minute and an ugly horror show the next. However, the Blues still lack a player to shape the tempo and create goal scoring opportunities, despite the big money signings.

Enter Gavi.

He is Barcelona wonderkid but he actually is a football’s Swiss army knife. At the same time, he can play as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder, or even out wide. Gavi, with his technical ability, composure under pressure and an eye for the killer pass could be a perfect solution Chelsea have so desperately been crying out for.

And his attitude, for that matter. That is a guy that has played like, you have been in the game for decades, man. Deco, the barcelona sporting director explains.

“Gavi is a special player. Everything that a footballer should have he has the character. Other than that he is only 20 years old and plays like he is 26 or 27.”

It’s easy to see why Chelsea want him and high praise.

Can Chelsea Really Sign him?

The twist is that Barcelona don’t want to sell. Shocking, right?

First of all, he is not only one of their best young talents but an academy graduate making his dream come true at his boyhood club. It’s not going to be an easy task for Chelsea to convince Barcelona to part company with their golden boy unless Chelsea plan to use Lionel Messi’s impending retirement as a bargaining chip.

And Gavi himself for all intents and purposes appears to be quite content in his present situation. He’s already a major presence at Camp Nou and there’s no huge desire for a ticket to London.
