Mohamed Salah gave the coldest of shoulders to struggling Darwin Nunez after his penalty miss in the defeat to PSG.

The Egyptian rifled home the first goal in the Champions League last-16 shootout after the tie ended 1-1 on aggregate. Vitinha and Goncalo Ramos had put the Parisiens 2-1 up before Nunez stepped up to try and put Liverpool level. The derided Uruguayan's penalty was well saved by Gigi Donnarumma as a dejected Anfield was silenced.

But new images have emerged, via a fan video, of Salah's response to the penalty disaster. Club captain Virgil van Dijk consoled the 25-year-old as he returned to the half way line before being comforted by the rest of his team mates. However, Salah was pictured as the only player to be unmoved and did not move a muscle to comfort his fellow striker. The Premier League top scorer looked seething as he stood aside from his teammates as PSG went on to progress to the quarter-finals.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot moved quickly to console Darwin Nunez after the full-time whistle. Former Reds defender Stephen Warnock confirmed on BBC Radio 5 Live what many fans felt: "You just had that feeling as Darwin Nunez walked up to the ball. A sense of anxiety from the Liverpool fans. He didn't have an impact on the game."

Former Celtic star van Dijk tried to galvanise his team following their heartache, and said: "It's part of football. I said to the guys 'you can be disappointed because we are out of the competition, but chin up'. Now we get ready for the next challenge at the weekend which is a beautiful one."
