Rangers are now a step closer to being owned by the San Francisco 49ers who are aiming for a controlling stake.

The key parties involved in the takeover deal have received their first tranche of the legal paperwork involved in the deal.

Discussions began in October and things are understood to be at a very advanced stage.

He revealed that the multi-million pound transaction is now on course to be completed by May, which is earlier than first expected.

Paraag Marathe, who is the chief executive of 49ers Enterprises and health insurance tycoon Andrew Cavenagh are on the brink of an agreement.

This is understood to bring about a major change in the boardroom dynamics at Ibrox.

Dave King, John Bennett and Barry Scott have agreed to offload their shareholdings, either entirely or a major part of them.

Gers set to have new owners in place before the transfer window

With everything progressing well and a new timeline emerging, it undoubtedly is a positive for the club.

This means that the new owners will be in place before the summer transfer window so the rebuild can happen from June itself.

It’s evident that Rangers have to play catch up to arch rivals Celtic and it is going to be a mammoth task in bridging that gap.

Shareholder Stake

Dave King 12.96%

Douglas Park 11.54%

George Taylor 10.22%

Stuart Gibson 9.53%

Julian Wolhardt 9.53%

John Halsted 9.53%

John Bennett 7.11%

Shareholders who have agreed to sell all or part of their stake.

However, with the 49ers’ expertise and data-driven approach, things can be accelerated this summer and some good transfer activity could see Gers back in the hunt to win title number 56.

Not just on the pitch, but there will be a lot of decisions that need to be taken off the pitch as well, especially in the structure of the hierarchy.

The board is what has let the fans down in past seasons and a repeat of that cannot be tolerated under the new regime.
