Earlier this season, West Ham were linked with a move for Massimilliano Allegri.
There was talk that the Hammers were keen on appointing the Italian as a replacement for ex-manager Julen Lopetegui.
Some more background has now emerged about West Ham’s interest in Allegri and Gazzetta dello Sport have stated that the former Juventus manager wants to join a ‘top European club’.
That is described as a key reason why talks with the Hammers never took off, with the report indicating that Allegri doesn’t see West Ham as a top side right now.
That is also said to be the reason why the 57-year-old rejected AS Roma and Al-Ahli. He has a clear idea about his future and there is a rising probability of him becoming the next AC Milan boss.
West Ham hired Graham Potter right after sacking Lopetegui and since the Englishman’s arrival, the London side have won three games in eight league outings.
Allegri would have presented a very tried and tested European option for them, considering his track record of winning silverware at both Juventus and Milan. That ship has now sailed.
