Final week is here and it’s not long until thousands of Toon fans head to London for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.
It’s our second trip to Wembley in as many years and a chance to end that 70-year wait for a domestic trophy, with Arne Slot’s Liverpool standing in our way.
Excitement is building and supporters look set to meet at Covent Garden on Saturday night now Trafalgar Square is out of action, with Toon fans set to turn the capital black and white over the weekend.
On that subject, one of the club’s major partners come forward with an ‘unprecedented donation’ that promises to make Sunday’s spectacle that bit more special.
Newcastle United have announced that Sela have donated special scarves for every Newcastle United fan attending Sunday’s final.
In news that confirms Craig Hope’s exclusive for The Mail earlier today, Newcastle reveal that our Saudi partners have worked alongside the club and Wor Flags to produce 32,000 limited-edition scarves, helping create a wall of black and white as the players enter the field.
The club’s [official statement](https://www.newcastleunited.com/en/news/sela-to-provide-scarves-for-every-fan-at-wembley) reads: ‘Supporters arriving at Wembley for the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool on Sunday will be greeted with a scarf waiting on their seat – thanks to an unprecedented donation from club partner Sela.
‘Working alongside the club and Wor Flags to ensure the best atmosphere possible inside Wembley, Sela have produced 32,000 limited-edition scarves to be given away free to supporters at Sunday’s match.
‘The donation is set to be one of the biggest of its kind at a single competitive football match and will create an imposing black and white wall of support behind Eddie Howe and the players.
‘United reached the final for the second time in three years after an impressive 4-0 aggregate semi-final win over Arsenal, having already knocked out fellow Premier League sides Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Brentford – as well as AFC Wimbledon.
‘The Magpies come up against a Liverpool side who are currently top of the Premier League, but Howe’s men will be backed all the way by their fantastic fanbase as they look to win their first major trophy since 1969.
‘The bespoke scarves read ‘Carabao Cup final 2025’ on one side and ‘Howay the Lads’ on the other, providing each fan with a piece of history from this momentous occasion. This follows Sela’s donation of 6,000 scarves for fans at last year’s Tyne-Wear Derby.’
It promises to be a brilliant spectacle and (hopefully) big atmosphere this weekend, with 32,000 Newcastle fans meeting 32,000 Liverpool supporters at either end of Wembley.
Two years ago, Wor Flags had fans waving black and white flags as the players took to the pitch, although it wasn’t to be that day as Man Utd came away with a 2-0 win and the trophy.
Hopefully this time we can recreate some of those magical atmosphere’s we’ve seen inside St James’ Park and a go one better against a Liverpool side who’ll be looking to bounce back last night’s Champions League exit to PSG.
