Arsenal man talks up specific transfer again despite club slowing down efforts

On February 5th, Albert Sambi Lokonga stated he would like to continue at Sevilla, after joining them on loan from Arsenal last summer. The La Liga club reportedly have a €12m purchase option.

Four days ago, we covered claims from Spain that Sevilla have slowed down their efforts to retain the midfielder because they have concerns over his fitness.

The Arsenal man has struggled with a hamstring problem on two different occasions, forcing him to lose close to two months of this season. He returned to the pitch at the weekend against Real Sociedad, after spending a month on the sidelines.

RTBF had a chat with the midfielder and although they make mention of the latest claims from Spain, he again expressed his desire to continue at Sevilla next season.

“Spain is something I’ve always wanted. So today, being at Sevilla is really an opportunity that I have to respect and take seriously. I think I’m in a league that suits me, with a team that suits me. So, it’s up to me to make the difference,” he said.

“I want to stay here, and I think this is a club where I can settle in for the long term by staying for three or four years and then maybe try to find another challenge. But I’m certainly fulfilled here.”

The Belgium international arrived at Arsenal from Anderlecht in 2021 and wasn’t a regular under Mikel Arteta. The Gunners then sent him on loan to Crystal Palace and Luton Town before sanctioning another temporary move to Sevilla.

The Arsenal owned player highlighted García Pimienta’s confidence when explaining why his experience at the Spanish club has been different.

“What makes the difference compared to previous experiences is the continuity. Playing matches in a row. And that, I think, is important. And then, above all, I think, the coach’s trust. A player with the coach’s trust is simply different,” Lokonga explained.

His contract at Arsenal lasts until 2026.
