Stadium build a 'risk' to competitiveness
Man United’s CEO Omar Berrada has admitted the new £2bn stadium could affect the club's competitiveness on the pitch.
He said: “That is a risk.
“Clearly it’s something we want to avoid. We don’t want to inhibit our ability to invest in the team, for us to continue being competitive while we are building a new stadium.
“There are various ways around that and one of the things we are looking at is to shorten the construction timelines so we can have a new stadium within five years. That’s our ambition.
“In the meantime, by getting our finances back in order and becoming profitable, we believe that we can be very competitive.
“The big, big benefit that this club has is that it has the biggest fanbase in the world and therefore the ability to be the No 1 in terms of revenues that it generates.”

Ratcliffe hails 'scale' of new stadium
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has hailed the scale of the new Manchester United stadium.
The 100,000-seater stadium is expected to be built in the next five years and will cost an estimated £2billion.
Ratcliffe told club media: "I think it's the scale of 100,000 people in a stadium.
"I've only ever been to one stadium with 100,000 people. That was the Nou Camp and I was there for the 1999 final against Bayern Munich.
"And I mean it’s a thing you can never forget because it's so impressive to be there among 100,000 fans screaming and shouting.
"I like design, it’s something that I enjoy in my life, and I think the design of the stadium is a 10 out of 10.
"I think it's a really special design that Norman Foster's inspired."

New stadium must be unique and the best
Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants Man Utd to lead the way in giving the Prem a world-class stadium, writes MARTIN BLACKBURN.
The Red Devils' minority owner said: “The Premier League is indisputably the best football league in the world — maybe the best sport’s league in the world.
“It must have a stadium that is at least the equal of the best in Europe.
“Today it has some great stadiums but it doesn’t have a Bernabeu or a Nou Camp.
“They are bigger and more interesting than the stadiums we have in the Premier League.”
United have studied those two Spanish venues while working out their own plans — as well as the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and the Olympic Stadium in Munich.
But they wanted something unique to United — and the three big-top style tents, to signify the ‘trident’ on their badge will make sure of that.
Not to mention the enormous umbrella that will cover a huge area of the complex — surely a nod to the famous Manchester weather.
With 170,000 on their waiting list for season tickets, United are convinced they can sell the extra 25,000-plus tickets that would be added to their current capacity.

Huge losses not sustainable
Omar Berrada has admitted United couldn't keep racking huge losses.
The Old Trafford chief executive is looking forward to a massive new stadium and gradual improvements in playing achievements.
Credit: PA
He added: “The way the club was tracking, with all the losses that have been accumulated — more than £300million in the last five years — was not sustainable.
So all the plans we’ve been putting in place over the last months really address the short-term issue, which is that the club was losing money.
“Once we stop losing money, we then put ourselves in the best financial position to continue investing in our team and also to allow us to be able to have the ambition to build a new stadium.”

Berrada wants best team in best stadium
Man Utd chief executive Omar Berrada says the club want the world's best team and stadium.
And he stressed that means massive improvements must be made on the pitch - to match plans off it.
Berrada said: “It is clear that our ambition is to have the best team in the world with the best and most iconic stadium in the world.
“We want to have some of the best players playing at Old Trafford in front of our fans.
“Our fans deserve to see a team that they can be proud of and can connect with — and to be able to do that in an amazing venue like the one we have shown.
“We obviously want the stadium to give us additional revenues for us to be able to invest into the team, and I think that’s going to help.
“One of the biggest upsides is to give the best experience to our fans, to be able to accommodate more fans into the stadium.
“But it is true that the additional revenues will help finance the talent that the fans will see on the pitch.”

Red Devils fear 5-year trophy drought
Manchester United admit they "risk" a five-year trophy drought by committing £2BILLION to ‘New Trafford', writes MARTIN BLACKBURN.
United yesterday unveiled their vision for a state-of-the-art, 100,000-seater home next to the Theatre of Dreams.
But it came less than 24 hours after co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe claimed the club could have gone bust by Christmas without his savage cost-cutting measures.
The "brave" stadium plans were backed by legendary former boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
While chief executive Omar Berrada hopes current under-fire boss Ruben Amorim will still be in charge when the stadium is completed in 2030.
However, asked if the build could affect their competitiveness on the pitch, Berrada admitted: "That is a risk. Clearly it’s something we want to avoid.
"We don’t want to inhibit our ability to invest in the team, for us to continue being competitive while we are building a new stadium.
"There are various ways around that; one of the things we are looking at is to shorten the construction timelines so we can have a new stadium within five years, that’s our ambition.

'New Trafford will be our Eiffel Tower'
Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants Manchester United’s new £2billion home to be the north of England’s answer to the Eiffel Tower in Paris, writes MARTIN BLACKBURN.
And the club’s co-owner claims ONE BILLION United followers will want to visit the ‘New Trafford’ tourist attraction — despite some fans branding it a “CIRCUS TENT”.
The Old Trafford faithful might be sceptical — given the Red Devils also sit 14th in the Prem table.
What’s more, Ratcliffe claimed on Monday afternoon the club would have gone bust by Christmas had they not brutally slashed costs.
Yet here he was, a few hours later, unveiling the plans for a 100,000-seater stadium — which they hope can become reality by the start of the 2030/31 season.
The Ineos owner said: “It’s obvious that the more iconic or more extraordinary that the stadium is, the more successful the regeneration scheme will be.
The new stadium will have unique 'steeples'
The new stadium will have unique 'steeples'
“A really good example is the Eiffel Tower. Everybody around the world knows the Eiffel Tower.
“I’m sure many people here who have visited Paris, you stay in a hotel, you go to the Eiffel Tower.
“We have one billion people around the world who follow Manchester United. They will all want to visit this stadium.”

Utd women's team tipped to play at new stadium
United are hoping new technology can help their women's team feel at home in Sir Jim Ratcliffe's huge new stadium.
The United co-owner announced the go-ahead for a £2billion, 100,000-seater ground on Monday.
United are set to leave Old Trafford behind to build an entirely new stadium.

It follows months of speculation, with the announcement following a sobering review of the Red Devils' financial state.
Ratcliffe is adamant the new ground will "have a really intense atmosphere" and be the "best in Europe".
United's women's team was founded in 2018 and currently play matches at the 12,000-capacity Leigh Sports Village.
They are the current women's FA Cup holders and are currently second in the WSL.
United COO Collette Roche has confirmed the club are hoping to move the women's team with them to the new stadium.
And they hope to embrace technology to make the ground feel "smaller" and more "intimidating." Roche said: "There's technology now that can still give you the sense of a smaller, intimidating, great atmospheric stadium.

And ex-England skipper Rooney said: “Mateta is a big, strong lad who scores a lot of goals.
“From watching Arsenal over the past few games in the Premier League, they have put a lot of balls into the box without having anyone to get on the end of them.
“I am sure he would help from that point of view.”

Sancho NOT certain of permanent Chelsea move
Jadon Sancho could return to Manchester United next season - despite Chelsea having an obligation to buy the forward.
The United winger, 24, is currently on a season-long loan at Stamford Bridge.
The former £73million man joined the Blues last summer, since making 26 appearances and scoring twice.
Sancho recently declared he was "delighted" to be at the club and "felt at home".
But the former Dortmund flop was called out by United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe during his explosive interview earlier this week.
Chelsea's loan deal with United includes an obligation to buy Sancho if they finish 14th or higher in the Premier League.
According to The Mail, the final fee will be between £22m and £25m depending on Chelsea's final league position.
But the outlet claims the Blues could yet back out of the deal and send Sancho back to United, where he still has 18 months left on his £250k-a-week contract.
The ex-Man City star has "yet to agree personal terms" with the Blues. But if Chelsea did back out of the buy clause, they would incur a "significant penalty" fine.

You're too Vany
Man United feel target Geovany Quenda is too expensive.
Reports claim the Sporting Lisbon ace, 17, is Ruben Amorim’s preferred choice at right wing-back.
But it’s reckoned Quenda could cost upwards of £50million.
And United chiefs, who are keen for bargains this summer, are looking elsewhere for cheaper alternatives.

Irish jockey Paul Townend had no problems in steering Kopek to victory.
So Scholes recoupled his stake plus another £2.5k.
That's not even a day's pay for many Premier League stars - let alone those Old Trafford players rated as overpaid by club minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
But Scholes was so delighted he couldn't resist posting about it.

Losing Rashford could COST Red Devils £20m
United could be forced to shell out £20million to Marcus Rashford - if he leaves the club this summer.
The out-of-favour forward, 27, is currently on loan at Aston Villa for the remainder of the season.
Rashford was frozen out by boss Ruben Amorim after claiming in December he was seeking a "new challenge".
The 27-year-old striker has made five appearances for Villa in the Premier League since joining in January, but is yet to score.
Rashford penned a mammoth contract extension with the Red Devils in the summer of 2023.
It is said to be worth a whopping £325,000-a-week and runs until 2028.
According to The Mail, United could bank "as little as £20m" if they sell Rashford to Villa.
Unai Emery's side have an option to buy Rashford for £40m if he proves a hit during his loan spell.
But the report claims Villa are "unlikely to match his current salary".

Man Utd's head of sports medicine and first-team doctor have quit the club.

But in a move not linked to the job slashes, sports medicine expert Gary O’Driscoll and senior doctor Jim Moxon have left Old Trafford.
The Mail report that O’Driscoll’s exit comes as a "huge surprise" after he joined from Arsenal a year-and-half ago.
He is highly-respected in the medical field and is said to have made a positive impact while at the club.
Moxon departs after two years at Man Utd to "pursue another opportunity", having previously worked at Liverpool.
Both are set to stay in their roles temporarily to allow for chiefs to find replacements.
Man Utd's squad is thin at the moment as an injury crisis rips through the side.

Scholes tells Garnacho to stop sulking
Alejandro Garnacho needs to "get better" and stop sulking - according to Man Utd legend Paul Scholes.
The winger was substituted yet again as the Red Devils drew 1-1 at Real Sociedad.
And he appeared to be in a bad mood as he sat on the bench - just a week after he threw a strop after being taken off against Ipswich.
Scholes claimed he was sulking after being taken off, and suggested he needs to improve.
The pundit said on TNT Sports: "He looked like he was sulking a little bit to me.
"I am not having fatigue. I think they are alright. I don't think there are great legs in this Manchester United team.
"Garnacho's biggest strength is running through. Sometimes he makes the wrong decisions but he had a lack of energy and a little bit of silkiness.
"He will need to get better as they don’t really have anything else to call on."
Garnacho walked straight down the tunnel after being substituted in the first half against Ipswich following Patrick Dorgu's red card. He did not return to the bench for the second half and was later punished by Ruben Amorim.
