Man Utd face Real Sociedad in the second leg of their Europa League last 16 tie later this week.
Mason Mount has returned to Manchester United training after almost three months out due to injury. United are back in action when they host Real Sociedad in the second leg of their Europa League last 16 tie on Thursday night.
The 26-year-old has not featured since he suffered a hamstring during the Manchester derby victory over Man City back in December and has been gradually working his way back to match fitness. Mount is not expected to be in the squad to face Sociedad in midweek, but his proposed return to action is a huge boost for head coach Ruben Amorim.
United were handed a further injury boost as midfielder Manuel Ugarte took part in the open training session on Wednesday morning after two matches out with a ‘minor issue.’ The Uruguayan missed the first leg against Sociedad last week and could be involved at Old Trafford on Thursday night, but Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro did not feature in the latest session.
Ruben Amorim ‘loves’ Mason Mount
Ruben Amorim is a huge fan of Mason Mount and views him as an integral part of Manchester United's plans for the rest of the season. The United head coach admires his ability to play as one of the two attacking midfielders in his line up, due to his traits both in and out of possession.
“Mason Mount… I have to tell you I love that kid,” he told club media back in November 2024. “You can look in his eyes that he wants this so bad. And this is the most important thing for me. I know he was suffering from injuries, he was not on the pitch, but now he’s trying to stay fit and we hope he can continue to be fit, to show all the talent that he’s shown, for example, in Chelsea.”
Mount has been ravaged by injury since he joined United from Chelsea in the summer of 2023, and he has made just 32 senior appearances for the club, scoring one goal and registering one assist.
