Amid the chaos that is the legal tampering period, the NFL took some time to announce the distribution of its compensatory choices for the 2025 draft. As expected and for a second straight year, the New England Patriots did not earn any extra picks on the basis of their 2024 free agency gains and losses.
A total of 35 such compensatory selections were awarded to 15 teams, the NFL announced on Tuesday.
The Patriots, meanwhile, remain with the nine picks they already had in hand entering the week. Those picks break down as follows, with the slots now officially finalized:
Round 1: Pick 4
Round 2: Pick 38
Round 3: Pick 69
Round 3: Pick 77 (via Atlanta for ED Matthew Judon)
Round 4: Pick 106
Round 5: Pick 144
Round 7: Pick 217 (via Tennessee for K Nick Folk)
Round 7: Pick 220
Round 8: Pick 238 (via Los Angeles alongside CB J.C. Jackson)
The Patriots have been on the receiving end of 48 compensatory selections since the NFL management council introduced the system in 1994. Only the Los Angeles Rams (51), Green Bay Packers (53), Dallas Cowboys (58) and the league-leading Baltimore Ravens (60) have earned more of those extra assets through the years.
The last time New England had the luxury of those picks was in 2023, when they received extra fourth- and sixth-rounders. Those two selections ended up invested in wide receiver DeMario Douglas and, through a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, guard Atonio Mafi and cornerback Ameer Speed. Only Douglas remains on the team heading into the 2025 league year.
The 2025 NFL Draft will take place at Green Bay’s Lambeau Field on April 24-26.
