Report: Newcastle make major behind scenes Carabao Cup final change as Eddie Howe aims to avoid …

Eddie Howe does not want a repeat of the 2023 Carabao Cup final for Newcastle United.

Two years ago, Newcastle United travelled to Wembley and got lost in the occasion.

It was a grand day out for the Toon Army, as they went on to lose the 2023 Carabao Cup final against Manchester United.

While the whole weekend was special, Eddie Howe and his players have nothing to show for it. They fell short, losing to an experienced team of winners. It was a real shame, but now Newcastle are better equipped for a final.

The Magpies have another chance to lift silverware, and the Newcastle United manager is approaching this final differently.

How Newcastle United have prepared differently for this Carabao Cup final

After they qualified for the final, it was reported that Eddie Howe would change Newcastle’s approach compared to what happened in 2023.

That has proven to be the case, with the i Paper providing details of how the club have altered their preparations ahead of the Carabao Cup final. Overall, Howe’s goal is for it to feel like a normal game, rather than a grand occasion.

The i Paper state that Newcastle have moved their pre-match press conference to Friday, which is the day that Howe usually speaks to the media.

In contrast, Newcastle’s 2023 Carabao Cup final pre-match press conference actually took place on the Tuesday before the game.

The i Paper add that the ticket process has also been made simpler for Howe’s players, after they were inundated with requests for the game two years ago.

Newcastle hope to create special atmosphere inside Wembley

While the players are preparing differently, the Newcastle United supporters are once again preparing to take over London.

But there is also an acceptance in the fanbase that this final is different. 2023 was about the occasion, whereas 2025 is about a game of football.

Howe’s team will be the underdogs, and the Toon Army know that they need to be the 12th man.

When they arrive at their seat inside Wembley, Newcastle fans will be given a scarf provided by Sela.

A scarf on every seat 🤩

There’ll be a wall of black and white support at Wembley as @Sela donate 32,000 bespoke, limited edition Newcastle United scarves to mark Sunday’s Carabao Cup Final.

They’ll be waiting for you 🖤🤍 #wedontdoquiet
