Mason Mount has made his latest return to Manchester United training in a boost to Ruben Amorim.
United’s Premier League campaign may already be a write off but they are still in Europa League contention and host Real Sociedad in the second leg of their round of 16 tie at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
And Mount is close to being involved after three months out with a hamstring injury sustained in the derby win away to Manchester City in mid-December.
Mount, 26, has spent more time in the treatment room than on the pitch since moving to Old Trafford from Chelsea in the summer of 2023. He has made 32 appearances in all competitions across 19 months, scoring just one goal.

But Amorim declared himself a big fan of the midfielder straight after arriving last November.
“ Mason Mount … I have to tell you I love that kid,” Amorim said before his first game in charge. ”You can look in his eyes that he wants this so bad. And this is the most important thing for me.
“I know he was suffering from injuries, he was not on the pitch, but now he’s trying to stay fit and we hope he can continue to be fit, to show all the talent that he’s shown, for example, in Chelsea.”
Mount played both as a No10 and out wide for Thomas Tuchel’s Champions League-winning Chelsea. He was also a key player for England at the time – only for his body to let him down since moving north.

”He played in this system [before], so it’s perfect for him,” Amorim said. “I have two positions for Mason Mount, so he should be very happy.”
Mount’s latest injury came when he hyperextended his leg in the derby win away to City in mid-December. At the time Amorim said it was simply misfortune rather than an issue with the player’s physical conditioning.
“It’s bad luck, nothing with the problem of the body of Mason Mount,” Amorim said at the time. “It was a bad movement and he is going to recover because we need him.”
