Odegaard on how we'll approach PSV second leg

Before every game at Emirates Stadium, Martin Odegaard lifts the lid on the mood in the camp via his captain’s notes published in the matchday programme.

Ahead of tonight's Champions League game against PSV Eindhoven, Martin discusses the incredible 7-1 win out in the Netherlands, his joy at getting back amongst the goals and what our strategy will be given our healthy lead at the start of the second leg. Here is a snippet:

The first leg last week was a great game, I think it’s probably the biggest win I have played in. I can’t remember a result like that before at club level. I’ve played in a big win for my national team, but apart from that, this must be the biggest one I’ve played in.

It was a top performance, especially the way we attacked and how we were in front of goal. It was brilliant to be a part of, and especially doing that away from home in the knockout stage of the tournament is just massive.

Seven times we've scored seven goals in a game](https://www.arsenal.com/news/seven-times-weve-scored-seven-goals-game?utm_source=arsenaldotcom&utm_medium=embedded-article&utm_campaign=news)

I think everyone had a good feeling going into the game, and the start of the game was strong too. We could have conceded a goal early on to be fair, but we kept attacking really well and we looked so dangerous going forward. I think a big moment was the start of the second half. They scored late in the half, so we spoke at half-time about how they would really try to come for the game in the second half. If they had scored the next one it would have been game on. But we came out well, and I think that was key to winning the game well on the night Then after that we were really positive as well.

It was a great response from us. Personally I was pleased to get those two goals and the assist as well. I’ve been waiting a bit for that. I was happy with the pass for the last goal especially, a good finish as well from Richy so we enjoyed that one. Getting more goals and assists is what I’m working hard to do. I want to create chances and score goals, it’s what I’m on the pitch to do, so in that way it was perfect.

Now we are in an unusual position for this second leg tonight, but as I say, we have to do the job. Whatever the score coming into the game, we are always excited to play Champions League matches here at home, and we always play to win.

That’s the job for us tonight – put in another good performance, hopefully score some more goals, and go into the weekend on a high as well. We want to have that winning feeling, and we know we have another big game at the weekend against Chelsea before the international break, so let’s win this one and go into it on a roll.
