Patriots Insider Proposes Potential Contract For Cooper Kupp

The effort to add a high-end wide receiver proved to be very difficult for the Patriots this offseason, but there still is one option readily available.

Cooper Kupp has been a realistic option for New England for over a month now. The Rams made Kupp available for trade shortly after their 2024 season ended, but after failing to find a deal, Los Angeles is expected to release the veteran wideout after the new NFL year kicks off Wednesday.

Should Kupp become a free agent, the Patriots absolutely should be among the teams pursuing his services. As for what New England could offer the Super Bowl LVI MVP, the Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan floated a potential deal based on a separate offer the Patriots made to a star wideout earlier in the week.

“If they were reportedly willing to offer Chris Godwin around $25 million per year, as another receiver with an injury history who’s a year or two or a few past his prime, why not extend $12-$14 million annually on a two-year deal to Kupp?” Callahan wrote.

For what it’s worth, Kupp is “curious” about the possibility of playing in New England, per Callahan. So if the Patriots come to the negotiating table with a competitive offer, it might not be especially challenging for Mike Vrabel and company to convince Kupp to join Drake Maye’s arsenal. Being the No. 1 wideout on an ascending team with a budding star quarterback, a great head coach and creative offensive coordinator certainly would be a unique opportunity for Kupp.
