From France: What really happened between Virgil van Dijk and PSG officials after match, Liverpool captain got message across

On Tuesday, Paris Saint-Germain knocked Liverpool out of the Champions League after a penalty shootout at Anfield.

Virgil van Dijk’s future remains uncertain as his contract expires at the end of this season.

After the tie, Foot Mercato’s Josué Cassé shared a video of the Liverpool defender having a discussion with PSG president Nasser al-Khelaïfi and club advisor Luis Campos.

France’s RMC Sport now provide an insight into what the centre-back discussed with the PSG officials.

The Netherlands international’s contract expires in June, and he stated on Tuesday that he still has no idea about a renewal. As it stands, the defender can leave the Reds as a free agent after this season.

RMC Sport state the 33-year-old has been friends with the PSG president for a long time. He first hugged Al-Khelaïfi and then asked Campos to then join the discussion.

The report states Van Dijk took this opportunity to apologise to Campos for his comment in Parc des Princes’ tunnel after the first leg.

Campos was furious over a decision and was seen shouting about it in the tunnel. To which, Van Dijk responded, “this is not Ligue 1 bro”.

RMC state that the Liverpool captain explained on Tuesday that PSG are the best team in France and also the best team he has faced in the past three years. The report adds the French club’s official appreciated it.
