Club will seek another deal with Aston Villa despite disappointment – Negotiations shouldn’t be difficult

Vasco de Gama will seek to renew Philippe Coutinho’s loan deal from Aston Villa this summer, despite general disappointment around his time at the club so far.

That’s according to O Globo, who report that Vasco will look to keep the midfielder over fellow signing Dimitri Payet.

They explain that there has been a general disappointment at Vasco this season as they’ve struggled to get Payet and Coutinho into the same team and make it work.

There had been plenty of excitement about pairing the duo, but they’ve not managed to make that happen enough.

Despite that, Coutinho has shown ‘flashes of brilliance’, and Vasco are interested in extending his loan from Aston Villa.

The belief is that they can do a deal with Unai Emery and co as Coutinho is entering the final year of his contract at Villa Park so they may be keen to work something out.

Normally that would complicate matters, and we’d suggest Aston Villa may at least try and work out a way to get something for Coutinho rather than him going on a free in 2026.

Vasco are keen to try and keep the 32-year-old nonetheless, despite general disappointment about his loan spell this season.
