Arsenal’s defense has relied on the presence of William Saliba in the last three years. It’s no wonder with his calm composure, his reading of the game as well as his ability to shut down the opposition that top European clubs like Real Madrid are taking notice. However, his importance has not led to Arsenal opening contract extension talks with the French defender. Saliba’s contract with Arsenal is due to expire in 2027, but the football world essentially whizzes by, and when a player of Saliba’s standard is involved, it moves even faster.
The eyes are also on Saliba, not just for his performance in Arsenal’s must-win Champions League clash against PSV, but for what lies ahead in his career.
Is Arsenal Playing a Dangerous Game with William Saliba?
Gunners fans know that drill, though. A talented player does well, big clubs circle like sharks. Out of nowhere, everybody is panicking that he could be on his way out. Saliba’s case isn’t much different. Arsenal’s delay in talking terms with Suarez could backfire as Real Madrid is reportedly keeping tabs on him.
Saliba himself, however, appears unfazed. When asked about his future, the 23-year-old kept it cool, saying not yet, because there are still some years left and so there is no rush. Those are more relaxed words, but Arsenal fans will be relaxed only if rumours happen onwards.
What William Said About His Future
Saliba did nothing short of closing out contract talks. His ambitions were laid out in very loud terms. I want to win big things with Arsenal.” If you don’t have anything to win when you’re leaving this club, the fans will forget about you,” he declared. Ouch, but that’s a fair point. In recent history, Arsenal, to say the least, hasn’t been wetting itself in silverware.
Of course, football fans love a talented player. They love an equally talented player with the ability to win trophies even more. Saliba is in on the fact, which is why he has insisted he must now, in some way, commit to his legacy at the club by bringing home silverware.
