Virgil van Dijk
Virgil van Dijk has delivered this contract update
Virgil van Dijk insists he doesn’t know if he will be at Liverpool next season, claiming anyone saying different is lying.
Van Dijk says his representatives remain in talks with Liverpool as the weeks continue to count down to the expiry of his current contract on June 30. The Reds skipper says he does not know what will happen when pressed if he will still be at Anfield to lead the team out next season.
Liverpool are also locked in contacts talks with top scorer Mohamed Salah and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold and both are due to become free agents in the summer.
Salah wants longer terms on better money than Liverpool have so far been prepared to offer and Alexander-Arnold is widely expected to join Real Madrid, who had a cheeky £20million bid for the England star rejected in January.

The continued stalemate in talks has fuelled speculation van Dijk has secretly agreed terms with Liverpool to stay and that both sides are refusing to go public out of respect for the negotiations with Salah and Alexander-Arnold. Van Dijk, 33, rejects this and insists his focus is not on his future, but on lifting the Carabao Cup and wrapping up the title in Liverpool’s remaining 10 games.
When asked if he will be back next season for another crack at the Champions League after Liverpool’s exit on a penalty shoot-out to Paris St Germain, the The Netherlands centre-half said: “|’ve no idea.
“I still have no idea at the moment. Genuinely, I have no idea at the moment. Talks aren’t on hold, nothing’s on hold. I keep saying the same thing. Listen, there are 10 games to go and that’s my full focus.
“If there is news you guys will know it. I don’t even know myself. Everyone knows there are some conversations behind the scenes, but that’s about it.
“At the moment I don’t even know what will happen next year. If anyone says they do know, they’re lying to your face.”
