The latest Liverpool injury update ahead of their Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United

Liverpool face Newcastle United at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday. The Reds head into the game on the back of their Champions League loss to PSG on penalties on Tuesday night.

Arne Slot’s side sit top of the Premier League table and look well on the way to winning the title ahead of Arsenal. They were knocked out of the FA Cup though by Plymouth Argyle.

The Merseyside outfit have the chance to win their first trophy of the season under Slot this weekend. They will be locking horns with a Newcastle side who lost to Manchester United in 2023.

When will Trent Alexander-Arnold be back from injury?

Trent Alexander-Arnold - doubt. He has emerged as a doubt for Liverpool which isn’t ideal. The England international picked up an ankle injury against PSG and Slot said after the game: "[Trent] had to come off. That's never a good sign. And from what I heard from people that saw the images or how he got injured, it did not look very good. So I would be surprised if he is available for Sunday." Expected return date: Unknown.

Ibrahima Konate - should be available. The centre-back limped off in the Reds’ last outing but it isn’t believed to be as serious as Alexander-Arnold. His manager said: “I have to ask but for me Ibou was more that he was tired than it was an injury.” Expected return date: 16/03/2025.

Slot shared this general update after PSG: “The good thing is we play a final on Sunday, so mentally that’s probably the best you can ask for, because this is what we are playing football for: to play finals. And then there are two-and-a-half weeks in between before we start the season again.”

Liverpool injury woes

Joe Gomez - out. The defender is sidelined with a thigh issue and isn’t available right now. His head coach said last month: “Joe had surgery for his hamstring injury, so he's out for a long time. He will be back maybe just before the end of the season.” Expected return date: 03/05/2025.

Conor Bradley - out. Like Gomes, the full-back has a problem with his thigh and he won’t be ready to play against Newcastle. Liverpool will have a decision to make on who to play in his position with Alexander-Arnold also doubful. Slot shared this update in late February: “He is out for a few weeks. I cannot tell exactly how many, but it is clear that he went off with a muscle injury and that it is going to take a while before he is back.” Expected return date: 02/04/2025.

Tyler Morton - out. The midfielder, who spent last term on loan at Hull City, has recently had surgery on his shoulder and is in the treatment room. It remains to be seen when he will be back fit for the Reds and they will probably take their time with him as they wait for the right moment to play him again. He posted on Instagram recently: “Operation went well.” Expected return date: Unknown.
