Liverpool crashed out of the Champions League after failing to overcome Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.
The Reds had a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, but that was nullified by PSG’s Ousmane Dembélé in the 12th minute at Anfield. The aggregate score was 1-1 and the visitors fought their way through the penalty shootout to make it to the quarterfinals.
L’Equipe questioned Arne Slot after Liverpool’s elimination and gave him a rating of 5/10.
The French newspaper states the Premier League club’s performance was ‘convincing’ but criticised the manager’s substitutions as they had ‘little impact’ on the game.
Slot brought in Darwin Núñez, Jarell Quansah and Curtis Jones in the second half, and Cody Gakpo, Harvey Elliott and Wataru Endo in extra time.
Mohamed Salah came up against Nuno Mendes and lost several duels with the PSG player. Diogo Jota, who was leading Liverpool’s attack, lost eight of his 10 duels and had little impact against the Ligue 1 winners.
The Liverpool attacking duo and Ryan Gravenberch were all rated 4/10. The midfielder lost the ball on 13 occasions against PSG.
The trio received the lowest ratings among the Merseyside club’s players. The highest was 7/10, given to both Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Liverpool forward Luis Díaz, midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, Andrew Robertson and Alisson Becker all got 6/10.
L’Equipe gave Ibrahima Konaté 5/10 as they claim he was at fault for Dembélé’s goal. Trent Alexander-Arnold also got the same rating as the French centre-back.
Slot and Liverpool will be hoping to bounce back from this disappointment when they face Newcastle United in the EFL Cup final on Sunday.
