Cosmic Aerospace (Centennial, Colo., U.S.) has been making flight progress with CX-2, the company’s second clean-sheet demonstrator aircraft targeting electrification of passenger aircraft. CX-2 made its maiden flight on Feb. 8, 2025, validating key systems and advancing Cosmic’s developmental roadmap. From Feb. 21-22, the company completed flights three through nine.
“This has been an all-out effort to continue our rapid technology development roadmap, de-risking our key technology on our pathway toward full-scale prototypes and Skylark,” says Marshall Gusman, CTO at Cosmic Aerospace.

CX-2 is the first aircraft to fly with Cosmic’s Skylark configuration — featuring 32 embedded electric engines designed for efficiency, redundancy and quiet operation. Built entirely in-house, the composite airframe showcases Cosmic’s rapid development capabilities, with just four months from initial design to first flight.
The aircraft is expected to have a 1,000-kilometer range and 50% lower direct operating cost compared to a conventional jet.
This latest test campaign focused on key performance metrics, including:
Landing gear retraction
Stability across the speed range (50-100 miles per hour)
Glide performance (engines-off)
Maximum G-load capability
Autonomous loiter and approach
Doublet stability tests (yaw, pitch, roll)
Single-engine-out handling.
With plenty of data now in hand, Comsic says early results indicate excellent performance across these parameters.
The next phase of flight testing will expand CX-2’s operational envelope and further validating its aerodynamic and propulsion systems through longer-duration flights, higher speed and increased altitudes.
