Robertson speaks out: from UCL heartbreak to Wembley— what’s next

From a tough Champions League exit to a looming Wembley final, Andy Robertson remains confident that Liverpool will bounce back and keep pushing for success.

Liverpool’s journey in the Champions League came to a heartbreaking end on Tuesday night, as the Reds bowed out in the last-16 stage following a 4-1 penalty shootout defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite dominating the second leg at Anfield and relentlessly pushing for an equalizer, Liverpool couldn’t overturn the tie, leaving Andy Robertson both proud and disappointed.

Speaking to Amazon Prime post-match, Robertson encapsulated the team’s spirit, saying,

“Can’t question the effort or endeavour and everything we put into the game.

When it goes to penalties, its’s always a lottery. I can’t be any prouder of the players. It’s unfortunate that the effort wasn’t rewarded.”

Liverpool started the match with intensity, but Ousmane Dembele’s early goal levelled the tie, forcing the Reds to chase the game.

Despite a dominant second half where Liverpool pressed PSG back into their half, the elusive goal never came. Reflecting on their missed opportunities, Robertson said,

“Last week a lot was said about them not taking their chances and we didn’t take our chances [tonight].

We couldn’t get back on level terms. We have got to look back on and there will be a lot of positives from this game, but a massive disappointment to not go through.”

The heartbreak of elimination was palpable, but Robertson acknowledged the magnitude of their opposition.

“Finishing top of the group and got the toughest tie of the whole Champions League.

If they play to that level they should go far in the competition.”

Andy Robertson ahead of the Carabao Cup Final:

“There’s a lot of tired legs in there, we need to recover properly, we need to get ready to go – but we will be.”

Despite the bitter exit, Liverpool’s resolve remains unbroken. With a Carabao Cup final looming, Robertson emphasized the need to bounce back swiftly.

“It wasn’t meant to be and we need to dust ourselves down.

We always bounce back, there’s a lot of tired legs in there. Cup finals, we enjoy them, and that’s the biggest game.”

The road ahead is demanding, with Premier League title race heating up after the international break. Yet Robertson’s words resonate with hope and determination, reinforcing the club’s fighting spirit.

Liverpool may have fallen short in Europe. But their hunger for silverware remains unsatiated. The focus now shifts to Wembley on Sunday.
