Manchester United could agree a naming rights deal worth more than £50million a year for their new stadium, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League side have announced plans to build a 100,000-seater stadium as part of the government’s regeneration of the Old Trafford area.

Man United’s expert task force – which includes Manchester mayor Andy Burnham and ex-defender Gary Neville – recommended the new development over the prospect of improving the club’s existing home.

The new facility is expected to take at least five years to be completed and will cost around £2billion.

Lord Norman Foster, founder of Foster and Partners, which will design the project, said the stadium would feature an umbrella design and a new public plaza that is “twice the size of Trafalgar Square”.

The design will also comprise three masts described as “the trident” that will be 200 metres high and visible from 25 miles away.

Football Insider revealed last June United could agree a £25million-a-year naming rights deal if they were to remain at Old Trafford.

Sources say a similar deal for their new stadium could be worth more than double that figure, with the club likely to receive offers in excess of £50million a year.

Snapdragon could agree Man United naming rights deal

United’s shirt sponsor Snapdrogan previously expressed its interest in purchasing the club’s stadium naming rights.

Chief marketing officer Don Maguire revealed last August the US firm is “working very closely with the team on the reimagining of Old Trafford from a technology and innovation standpoint”.

United’s deal with Snapdragon is worth £60million a year, with the agreement set to run until 2029.

Manchester City currently earn the most in the Premier League from naming rights as Etihad Airways pays around £15million to sponsor their stadium as part of the Abu Dhabi airline’s £80million annual contribution to the club.

Jim Ratcliffe could make Man United takeover demand to finance new stadium

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is considering options for financing the new stadium development after taking control of the footballing operations at Old Trafford in February last year.

Football Insider revealed on 13 February Ratcliffe could demand more United shares to help fund the project.

The INEOS chief owns a 28.9 per cent stake in the club, while the Glazers have seen their shareholding diluted to 48.9 per cent.

United’s accounts for 2023-24 revealed they generated a club-record revenue of £661.8million despite recording a net loss of £113.2million.

The Manchester giants’ existing debt currently stands at around £1billion after they have faced financial challenges in recent years.
