Mark Lawrenson suggests what Liverpool owners should do with Mohamed Salah after latest contract update

The future of Mohamed Salah remains up in the air at Liverpool.

It is well known that the Egyptian superstar is one of three major Liverpool stars out of contract at the end of the season, with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also facing uncertain futures.

Behind the scenes, Liverpool will be working on keeping all three stars for the 2025/26 campaign, however, Real Madrid’s interest in Alexander-Arnold is a worry.

Saudi Arabia are showing strong interest in Salah and the Liverpool winger will be top of their list for the summer transfer market.

It remains to be seen if clubs from the Middle East make an official move for the Reds forward and if talks have been occurring behind the scenes.

A decision on Salah’s future is likely to come soon and Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has told the Merseyside club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, what to do with the 32-year-old.

Mark Lawrenson doesn’t see Mohamed Salah leaving Liverpool

Amid all this contract talk, Salah has been immense for Liverpool this season and has fired the Reds towards the Premier League title.

The Egyptian superstar has provided his team with 32 goals and 22 assists across the 42 games he has competed in, which is even more impressive given his uncertain future.

It has become apparent that Salah is still a crucial player for Liverpool and speaking about the winger’s contract situation, Lawrenson has told FSG to give the 32-year-old a two-year deal, with the option of a further season.

“I mean if you were in the shoes of the owners, you’d give him two years with a one,” Lawrenson said on talkSPORT about Salah’s Liverpool future. “I don’t think he will go to Saudi Arabia, what is the point?”

The Reds legend would also go on to say about the fitness of the veteran star: “He’s bulked up, I think he is harder to shove off the ball now. This season he has been absolutely brilliant.”

Lawrenson’s words came ahead of an update on Salah’s future and it has left Liverpool fans no wiser as to what the winger is going to do.

Latest on Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool future

Liverpool are entering a crucial stage when it comes to the contract situations of all three major stars and there has been no major update on any of them progressing.

According to The Times’ Paul Joyce, Salah has repeatedly stated that his future is up in the air and there has been no change in that standpoint.

Everyone at Liverpool is currently focused on the Carabao Cup final and getting the Premier League over the line, however, progress will need to be made on the contracts front.

Salah continues to break records at Liverpool and Theo Walcott believes the Reds star is the Ballon d’Or favourite for 2025.

The 32-year-old will have the opportunity to go to Saudi Arabia in the future, therefore, the winger must continue to grow his legacy on Merseyside.
