On March 11, Ukraine carried out the largest drone attack on Russian territory since the start of the war. The strikes, which mainly targeted Moscow and the surrounding region, killed at least three people and injured 18 others, including three children. Russia’s Defense Ministry said it intercepted and destroyed 343 Ukrainian drones in total. While Russian officials have accused Ukraine of targeting civilian infrastructure, the Ukrainian General Staff said the drones were targeting the Moscow Oil Refinery, and that Russian air defense systems caused the damage to residential buildings. The assault began just hours before Ukrainian and U.S. officials met for talks in Saudi Arabia, which resulted in Ukraine agreeing to a 30-day ceasefire if Russia follows suit. “This is an additional signal to Putin that he should also be interested in an aerial ceasefire,” Andriy Kovalenko, the head of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council’s Center for Countering Disinformation, said of the attack on Moscow.
