From France: What Virgil van Dijk REALLY said to PSG directors at Anfield

While Liverpool supporters processed the pain of European elimination, social media was abuzz with footage capturing Virgil van Dijk in conversation with some of the PSG hierarchy.

Following Liverpool’s heartbreaking Champions League exit on penalties (4-1) after a tense 1-0 defeat that leveled the tie at 1-1 on aggregate, the club captain was spotted in a lengthy discussion with Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and sporting advisor Luis Campos in the Anfield corridors.

The timing and context of Van Dijk’s post-match meeting with PSG officials – immediately following an intense knockout tie between the clubs – naturally fueled speculation about potential transfer interests, particularly given the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Van Dijk’s contract situation.

This footage comes just days after a previous tunnel confrontation between Van Dijk and Campos during the first leg in Paris, where the Liverpool captain had been involved in an exchange of words with the PSG sporting advisor over Ibrahima Konate and his foul on Bradley Barcola in the first leg.

In footage recorded by Canal+, Campos was heard expressing his frustration in the tunnel at halftime at Parc des Princes, angrily insisting, “It’s a red card or penalty.”

However, Van Dijk was not having any of it as he fired back, saying: “Come on bro, it’s not Ligue 1 bro. It’s not Ligue 1.”

This enraged Campos even more as he raised his voice shouting, “It’s a red card or penalty in every part of football.”

And now, according to French outlet RMC Sport, the conversation between Van Dijk, Al-Khelaifi and Campos was about the war of words in the reverse leg.

The report states that it was the Reds skipper who took time to meet the pair while the PSG players were still in their away dressing room.

The Liverpool captain first greeted Nasser Al-Khelaifi with a warm hug before inviting Luis Campos into the conversation. Rather than discussing transfer rumors or contracts, Van Dijk used the opportunity to apologize for comments he made during the first leg in Paris.

Van Dijk reportedly expressed regret for his words last week and praised PSG, calling them not only the best team Liverpool has faced this season but also the best team they’ve encountered in the last three years.

The apology and respectful exchange were reportedly well-received by PSG’s management.
